Duo Jaak Sooäär & Ivo Sillamaa
The duo of Jaak Sooäär and Ivo Sillamaa will perform with Bach’s special program on October 23 at the Viljandi Guitar Festival.
At first glance, the ensemble of piano and electric guitar seems unexpected to perform J.S. Bach’s music, but pianist Ivo Sillamaa and guitarist Jaak Sooäär have successfully tested its suitability. Piano and guitar are great for playing polyphonic music, and from time to time it’s hard to figure out which instrument is currently playing. The duo’s concerts in many parts of Estonia and also in Turkey have been unexpectedly successful, and in the beginning of 2018 the duo’s album with J.S. Bach’s music was released.
Ivo Sillamaa, a long-time pianist and long-time harpsichordist of the ensemble Hortus Musicus, is a very sensitive ensemble partner, whose play is characterized by improvisation, a refined sense of style and the ability to creatively approach the design of a solo part.
Jaak Sooäär, one of the most active jazz musicians in Estonia, has performed J.S. Bach’s music in various ensembles, mainly under the direction of Andres Mustonen. In recent years, his repertoire also includes J.S. Bach’s solo works.
The concert will be organized in accordance with the rules applicable to public events during this period. The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the program.
